Pediatric Physical Therapy

Pediatric Physical Therapy was established in 1993 when Judy Benton saw the need for the area children to have a clinic designed especially for them.  Our mission is to treat our patients and their families the way we ourselves and our children would want to be treated, with respect, dignity, skill and timeliness. This clinic is the only out-patient physical therapy clinic that provides services exclusively to children, birth to 21, in Calhoun County and the surrounding counties.  Our office is set in an older home in order to serve our patients in a natural looking environment that relieves their anxiety which can occur when seeking medical treatment.  In addition, this setting allows the clinicians to work with our patients in a variety of real life situations, for example, learning to walk over grass or on uneven sidewalks, learning to propel their wheelchairs up and down hills, and learning to get into and out of their cars. Pediatric Physical Therapy provides quality, one-on-one physical therapy treatments with only licensed clinicians.  Judy Benton is the only Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy in Calhoun County and the five surrounding counties.  Vicky King is the only LPTA who has been recognized for her Advanced Proficiency in Pediatrics in the same area.  Judy and Vicky have teamed together to provide individualized, specialized physical therapy services to our area special needs children.

We are located in the white house with the green roof on Leighton Avenue across from the No. 1 Fire Station, about a half a block from Stringfellow Hospital.  We have ample parking behind the clinic with a covered entrance.  Our main door is the back door.  We offer a comfortable waiting room that is child friendly for our patient’s siblings.

Judy Benton and her staff collaborate with Children’s Rehabilitation Service and Early Intervention.  We accept referrals from all primary care physicians as well as specialists. We work closely with the  Orthopedic surgeons in our area as well with the doctors at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital and UCP Birmingham.  Pediatric Physical Therapy is a vendor for Cascade DAFO’s and is able to cast and deliver orthotics for our patients.  We were the second physical therapy clinic in the state, after one in Northport, AL, to  provide this service for our patients. We also work closely with Alabama Wheelchair Specialists to assist our patients in obtaining appropriate adaptive equipment when needed. We accept most insurances, including but not limited to, BlueCross BlueShield, United Healthcare, Tricare and Medicaid.
